The demand for Chinese transformers in the African market is increasing rapidly.
According to the forecast by the African Development Bank, the investment required for Africa’s power grid transformation and energy storage supporting facilities from 2025 to 2030 will exceed 70 billion US dollars. Driven by Chinese equipment exports, the demand for “follow-on” stabilizers and isolation transformers is exploding:Stock Market: As of early 2024, there are over 32,000 Chinese-made mining machines in use in Africa, of which only 40% are equipped with dedicated voltage stabilization devices.Incremental Market: Optical storage projects are typically configured with “2-3 transformers + stabilizers per power station”. The bidding scale alone exceeded 2.5 GWh in 2024.
The “Africa fever” for mining machinery and optical storage projects will not cool down, but success will belong to those enterprises that have proactively solved the “voltage shortcoming”. For Chinese manufacturing enterprises that are already in or preparing to enter Africa, choosing a voltage solution partner that is truly rooted locally may be the dividing line between the success and failure of a project.
